  • Thursday, June 11th - Home meet vs. Community (Regular Season)

It is an expectation that all families will volunteer for at least 2 regular season meets (the practice meet does count but is a great opportunity to gain experience) over the course of the season. You can always sign up for more!

Some volunteer job times may vary, please note time indicated on each specific slot when signing up. Most meet operations jobs begin prior to the start of the meet. Information about when/where to report for each job will be provided prior to each meet.

Practice Schedule for 2026

We did it! It’s Memorial Day Weekend, the “unofficial” start to Summer! The Avonworth Swim Board was recently given our preseason pool time from the Avonworth Community Pool and all our preseason information is included below!

Standard Preseason Practice Times (Use the Swimmer’s Age on 6/1/26):

Age 8 & Under Swimmers: 5:30-6:30 PM

Age 9-10 Swimmers: 6:30-7:30 PM

Age 11 & Over Swimmers: 7:30-8:30 PM (no practice for this age group on Tue. 5/26)

All practices are at the Avonworth Community Pool. Swimmers who swim with a long course club team are encouraged to continue practicing with their team and to come to Alligator practice when their schedule permits.

This will be our practice schedule for May 26 – June 5. On June 8th, regular morning practices will start and all Alligators will be grouped (that info will come out by June 5th).

Please note, there are a few exceptions to our schedule. They are as follows:

  • On Tuesday 5/26, there will be no 11 & Over Practice due to the online parent meeting that evening at 8 PM.
  • On Thursday 5/28, the Avonworth Community Pool is not available to us, so there is no practice that day.
  • On Thursday 6/4, we will be hosting our Practice Mock Meet that night so that will replace practice that evening.

Again, we will have practice on Tue. 5/26 (for 10 & Under Swimmers), and for all swimmers on Wed. 5/27, Fri. 5/29, Mon. 6/1, Tue. 6/2, Wed. 6/3, and Fri. 6/5.

We will be starting morning practices the morning of Monday, June 8th, and will practice every weekday (weather permitting) until July 8th. All ability groups will practice every day. Although we encourage attending as often as possible, we do not track attendance. We understand other activities, family vacations as well as unforeseen things can prevent attending every day.  We recommend attending as many practices as possible to help prepare for meets.

We will have the team divided into three groups for practices.

  • The Red Swim Group will practice 8:00 - 9:15
  • The Black Swim Group will practice from 9:00 - 10:10.
  • The White Swim Group will practice from 10:00 - 10:50

You will be informed what group you are in prior to the start of practice.  Please note that group assignments are subject to change and we would let you know if your swimmer(s) group assignment(s) have changed.

Swimmers will be notified by email what group they are in (Red, Black, or White) by Friday, June 5th.

The time stated is when swimmers will begin warming up. Please arrive prior to that time and be ready to start stretching at the practice start time.

During practices, please permit the coaches to work with the swimmers without interruption. If the assistance of a parent is needed, a coach will seek that parent out.

We are expected to be clear of the pool by 11:00 so that it can be open for the public

Registration will be open through Monday, May 18 or until we reach our enrollment limit (by program and age group).

Some age groups are extremely close to capacity and we anticipate they will fill quickly.  If you have a swimmer that is trying to enter an age group that is currently filled, please email us at [email protected] to be added to the waitlist.

Program Cost for 2026:

1 Swimmer Family- $158

2 Swimmer Family- $276

3 Swimmer Family- $384

4 Swimmer Family- $487

There is no increase in 2026 pricing due to the outstanding fundraising/volunteer efforts last season!

Program fee includes all practices, meets, team year-end party, a year end gift, a team t-shirt, and a silicone team swim cap. Swimmers don't have to wear a swim cap, but can only wear the team issued one if they choose to do so. Questions regarding the registration process should be emailed to [email protected].

All swimmers will be expected to demonstrate a minimum swim competency of swimming 1 length of the pool (25 meters) freestyle without assistance, grabbing the lane ropes, grabbing the side of the pool or touching the bottom of the pool. Swimmers will demonstrate this ability in the first days of practice. Refunds will be given for swimmers who cannot meet the standard and they will be given information regarding swim lessons to prepare for the 2027 Summer Swim Season.

Payment can be made via credit card during the online registration.

Payment can also be made by check and mailed to Avonworth Alligators, Attn:  Justin Ledger, 504 Avonworth Heights Drive, Pittsburgh PA 15237.  Please make checks payable to "Avonworth Swim Team". Checks must be received within 14 days of registration or enrollment can be cancelled.

If you have a child younger than 6 that would like to join, please contact us at [email protected] before adding them as a swimmer here.

The team does require the assistance of parents or other family members during meets for concessions, timing, assistance with lining up events and other duties. Registering with the team is an acknowledgement of the requirement that a family member will be available for volunteering during at least two meets during the season. For individuals that have not volunteered with swim meets before, no experience is necessary but the team may reassign duties from one position to another.

Our mission is to provide swimmers with a positive experience in the sport of swimming. We want to help swimmers become better swimmers. We want swimmers to experience a positive team environment. We want swimmers to perform in competition. Most importantly, we want swimmers to have fun swimming.

We frequently get questions about whether or not a child is advanced enough as a swimmer to join us. We have swimmers of almost every talent level. Some of our top swimmers have been to the PIAA State Championships. Some of our former swimmers are now competing on the NCAA level. Some of our swimmers are also just beginning. As long as a swimmer can swim one length of the pool without stopping, they are capable of swimming with us.
